Actually, the wording is not important, as Humpty-Dumpty said. 
If the word is common and universally understood, then its origin is not
important.
For instance, the word “bus” (as large passenger car). It is from the Latin
“omnibus”, where -us is the inclination suffix of nominative/masculine.
Then, in English, the suffix alone was torn with the preceding “b” and the
vowel changed from Latin “u” to English “lambda” as in “up”.
Future English will probably have “ped” and “xing” as official dictionary
words.
