I just updated my test system to XP RC2. I usually do the installs on
mental autopilot, turning to the test system long enough to press “enter”
whenever it stops to ask questions.
But one question is about accessing the Internet to get the latest and
greatest patches. I chose “no” rather than the default “yes” because it
suddenly occurred to me that I have the symbols for the version on the CD,
not necessarily the versions of the DLLs that get sucked in by the auto
update. Plus I’m running the checked build, and I highly doubt that
whatever gets downloaded would be checked build modules.
But my point: Am I being paranoid, or is it Bad News to allow auto update,
from the point of view of symbols matching modules? If it is really an
issue, is there anywhere in the documentation that warns us about this?
Thanks,

“Curiouser and curiouser …” said Alice. How could you possibly have RC2
when they just released RC1? (Gotta be a typo. :))
Don’t sweat it. Much of “update” is also beta and is being tested as well. I
haven’t encountered a symbols problem.
