windbg symbol files for win2000

Hello,
I’ve to start windbg to set up a kernel debugging session on Windows2000 server . Windbg help document says to copy ntoskrnl.dbg, hal.dbg, driver, driver’s source, and driver’s symbol files to the host computer. However I’m not finding ntoskrnl.dbg & hal.dbg on my machine although I’ve installed SDK, DDK .
I’ve worked earlier on NT4.0 workstation, but there was a symbols folder inside the installation CD. There is no such symbols folder in case of win2000.
Please tell me how to load the symbols for win2000.
Thanks & Regards,

You get the Win2K symbols from Microsoft’s website.
There’s also symbols for SP1, but you’ll need the Win2K
original symbols too. Coupla hundred MBs download in all.

And make sure you’re using the debugger released after
the DDK, not the one in the Win2K DDK. The DDK’s windbg
had many problems, including incredibly poor symbol
handling.

hi,
you could get it from the checked build cd of win 2k\sp1 cd.Look in the
directory
“english\win2000\dbg_chk_service_pack_1\support\debug\symbols\i386” for
symbolssx application, which gives the symbol files.
regards,
shashi
