Win2k DDK problem still exists

All,

I was most disconcerted to find that WinDbg did not show all of my local
variables, and stepping showed me that code was optimized, in my checked
build. Since Peter had said in his April '01 driver course that “Windbg
DOESN’T suck!”, I was nonplussed.

Searching this fabuluous list server, I came across a reply by Jay Talbott,
who said that the WinHEC version of the 2k DDK had a problem wherein
optimizations were NOT disabled for a checked build (ref Knowledge Base
article Q263979). I checked, and I still had the same problem. I loaded
the DDK from the latest disk I could find, which is MSDN disk 1009, Oct
2001. This disk (I now see) says that it contains the Oct 2000 DDK
edition.

So, beware the DDK checked builds. Windbg, indeed, doesn’t suck. If you
have some missing locals, or can see that you’ve been optimized when you
step, dig Q263979, and rock on.
