Please stop posting queries blindly. First think logically what you need.
And by the way do you even know what OSR FSDK is for?
It is for development of File systems and not file system filters.

I think the dev means FDDK. I don’t personally know anything about
this, and I don’t even know what the Microsoft one is.

Hi Matt,
I think the dev means FDDK. I don’t personally know anything about
this, and I don’t even know what the Microsoft one is.
I understood that. But if you see his posting, the title says “Which SDK”
Then he asks about FSDK and Microsoft Filter Driver Kit…
Even by googling he could have found out that Microsoft provides WDK.
Secondly, WDK is free.
Thirdly, it is clearly mentioned on FDDK’s page " The FDDK includes everything required to develop a file system filter driver using the Windows DDK and Visual C/C++."…
And AFAIK, there is nothing like “Microsoft Filter Driver Kit”.
Objective of my last post was that these are simple things that the OP could have found out in a minute or two by googling rather than waiting so much time by posting it on NTFSD forum.
I did not mean to be rude but the guy is posting for every other trivial thing. It becomes a bit annoying.
And he told before also about the same thing.
Regards,
Ayush Gupta.
I wasn’t very clear. All I was trying to do was mention the FDDK in
case the dev was really confused, which it appeared he was, as I too
assumed that he meant the WDK, which is indeed free. I wasn’t
commenting at all on your post.

Guptu Why person comes to the forum ? Because in need of help from the professionals instead of having rude and unprofessional comments. Yes I did wrote FSDK by mistake what I was trying to write is FDDK which means Filter driver Kit right? Since I am a newbee and need to be correct why logically you cant think what to answer or how to correct my query, if you don’t like to answer me then stay out.
For your information Microsoft do provide filter driver kit through IFS Kit http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/DevTools/IFSKit/default.mspx. It is clearly mentioned that it can be helpful In making filter driver.
My concern was here to get the real answer and to clear my confusion instead of reading unprofessional and illogical answer from experience person like u. For you if these are simple things then for me they are not simple as like u. I am still in learning stage to get more information and I believe after got experience in this field I wont discourage or misbehave with my junior in this field. In 2 minutes I found the information on the google but I couldn’t found still the answer I had, plus watching these kinds of reply make me feel I should better stay away from osronline?
Do Respect to get respect (Keep this in mind)
Did you actually read the page? Your bombast will cause most to not offer
any help. There is no IFS Kit anymore. That was the old one for Windows
Server 2003 SP1, and the one that came before. There was one for Windows
NT4. The WDK 6000 has the IFS Kit included and should be used unless you
are developing specifically for Server 2008 where the WDK 6001 can be used
until a final release is done. Once Server 2008 is released, a
corresponding WDK will be released and it should be valid for operating
systems back to XP or maybe 2000 - I think support for 2000 is done, so it
may not be officially supported by the new WDK.
OSR sells kits for developing file system filters and file systems. Some of
the terms you are using match or almost match their names, but it is not
from Microsoft. Have you obtained and read the only book ever published on
file systems? It was written for NT 3.51 and 4, but most of the file system
stack hasn’t changed that much except for the filter manager that provides
the environment for minifilters. Have you read the IFS FAQ on OSR online?
When you have done all the above, return with more questions, hire one of
the consultants who write that type of code, or attend an OSR class on file
systems. OSR does contract work as does Don Burn and others who contribute
here.

Hi Farhan,
Because in need of help from the professionals instead of having rude and unprofessional comments
You can’t expect spoon feeding from this forum. Though I don’t own this forum, but this is just my advice to you.
if you don’t like to answer me then stay out
Well I tried to stay out for first 2 posts. But then it got a bit annoying.
I am still in learning stage to get more information and I believe after got experience in this field I wont discourage or misbehave with my junior in >this field.
Well I did not misbehave with you.

If you could not find the information which you asked for using google, then you should consider learning how to use a search engine. This forum wont spoon feed you. Take this from me.
Do Respect to get respect (Keep this in mind)
I know it better than you. :-). And your language seems to be more rude. Just stick to technical stuff instead of giving advices.
And consider ending this meaningless argument here itself.

Your not making friends.
So you’re new at drivers, this is not an excuse
for not doing your homework. You seem to have
made the assumption that this forum is an
official support forum - it is not. It is made
up of many professionals, who amongst their
normal work will find time for mutual help to solve problems.
Because most people on the forum are busy with
their own jobs they expect that anyone posting a
question has done a reasonable job of researching
the answer for themselves before posting. What
are considered by many to be trivial or
“programming 101” questions will result in people
responding in the forum with “go do your homework”.
For example, as has been pointed out the
Microsoft IFS kit has been obsolete for quite
some time and is now part of the WDK and as such
now comes for free. Even if the Microsoft
website has confused you, a search of the
archives on here would have quickly given you that information.
Respect is a funny thing. The more you whine
about it and post questions that the forum
regards as superfluous or showing lack of effort
on your part, the less respect you will
have. Since this is not an official support
forum and nobody is obliged to answer your posts,
this eventually results in you being ignored and getting no answers at all.
Lighten up, show that you’ve put some effort in
to your current understanding when posting and people will help.
Mark.

I would have to agree with your views along with Ayush’s. However,
in this guy’s defense this is probably the first list group he has ever
signed up for (as is mine).
Those of us in our twenties, as silly as it may sound we’ve never learned
the
proper etiquette for groups like this (I still haven’t
). Many of us
have grown up with web based message boards where the etiquette is
different. On an ASP/PHP message board, if you don’t do your home-
work, people just click past you - no biggy. In a forum like this, your
query is posted to everyone’s inbox. Therefore, there are different rules.
I can’t blame the guy to much, I’d be a hypocrite if I did (which I am
).
Being spoon feed is easier than ‘hunting and gathering’.
Perhaps the introductory email lyris sends when an individual joins should
put in caps, “THIS IS NOT A WEB FORUM OR MESSAGE BOARD”.
I know this sounds crazy, but a lot of people under 30 don’t know what NNTP
or USENET is. I’m sure the OP didn’t think about this before posting, and
I’m pretty sure this method of online communication if foreign and predates
him.
Regards,
Matt

This means that the DVD with WDK 6000 becomes precious
I’m a bit offended by the decision of Microsoft to revoke WDK 6000 from MS

WDK 6001 builds for 2000 platforms. WDK 6000 remains available from
MSDN, so I wouldn’t put my assets into old WDK 6000 DVDs as a safe
haven just yet.

I just read the first page of the WDK 6001 RC1 help file and it says that
Windows 2000 is not supported as a platform upon which that WDK can be
installed, but drivers targeting 2000 can be created. I guess it is hanging
on much harder than I expected. It also says of the RC1 version of the 6001
WDK: “This kit should not be used to create drivers for public release.”
I do agree with Maxim that since the no public release restriction is in
place, removing the ‘free’ copy of the WDK was not a good idea. MSDN is by
subscription only and it can be an expensive subscription with the highest
priced edition going for well over $11,000 and even more with taxes and S&H
added into the cost. Yes, there are less expensive versions, but none are
free, AFAIK. I saw many posts about using connect to obtain the WDK for
free, but it appears that option is gone when I sign in to connect.
