When and where do i encrypt and decrypt file in my filter

Hello all,
I want to develop a filter driver which encrypts and decrypts file accroding to file type(i.e. *.doc). But i don’t know when and where encrypt and decrypt file. Could you give me any hints? Thanks in advance!
