Volume info required

How can I get the volume information of in win2k. Win-SDK provides functions
which will give you all the volume names. But does not give me any info
about mirroring and striping. It’s mentioned in the windows documentation
that the disk configuration information is present in windowsregistry. But I
don’t know what are the keys and is it in a special format??
Any info regarding this ?? Mainly I want to know two things

  1. Is there any api that gives you this information (mirroring and
    striping)??
  2. if not How to retrieve it from registry or device itself ??
    With regards,
    Nagesh Bhattu

I think that the answer is that the mirroring software is derived from
(in .net,) and owned by (in w2k,) Veritas, and that the API for
retreiving this information is, as far as I know, not part of any
standard NT api or configuration database. Veritas Volume Manager (an
add on to w2k/.net that replaces the limited version available in w2k
and .net,) has an SDK that allows one to obtain this information.

Not the answer you wanted to hear, I suspect.

If Veritas is the volume manager then it gives all the information. So no
problem with Veritas. The problem is with windows native volume manager
(especially dynamic disks) which does not give much information.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. ‘Dynamic volumes’ are managed by the proprietary
Veritas software that ships with win2k and XP. While there is in fact
some documentation about the configuration information that is kept on
the disk (see www.sysinternals.com, ) and there is a tool from Microsoft
for dumping this information, the apis for querying the (veritas) volume
manager service are not available unless you upgrade the built in
support to the full Veritas product.

See www.veritas.com for more details (and more accurate information.)

Note that with .Net server the built in support is not owned and
maintained by Microsoft, not Veritas, but as far as I know the apis
remain unavailable unless you do the upgrade with Veritas thing.

I still wasn’t clear :frowning:

That is ‘now owned’ not ‘not owned’.

maintained by Microsoft, not Veritas, but as far as I know the apis
