Just joined the list - sorry if this has already been asked.
Does anyone know if a Vista IFS kit will be available soon? I was
going to buy the IFS kit for a project I’m working on, but realized it
doesn’t list Vista. Perhaps waiting a month or two will get me Vista
support as well? I’d hate to buy the current kit only to find out I
need to buy another one a few months later.
Thanks for any info!
Travis
The IFS kit is no longer necessary; it has been merged with the WDK since the Vista Beta series. Why you can still buy it is a good question, as it understandably confuses people. There are small differences, I’m told, in the samples between the 2003 SP1 IFS and the WDK samples, but nothing worth paying for.
Just download the Vista RTM (6000) WDK. If you don’t have a suitable MSDN subscription, you can get it from connect.microsoft.com, through the
“Windows Driver Kit (WDK), Windows Logo Kit (WLK), and Windows Driver Framework (WDF)” Connection, under the “Downloads” section:
“WDK - Vista RTM”
Good luck,

Actually, Windows Server 2008 RC0 has been available for the last 3 weeks as well (they say that it has 5 new samples plus numerous updates to the existing ones, as well as a dozen of new tools)…

He’s brand new to this; he probably doesn’t want beta software. However, I’ve got about 30 mb left on the download for Server 20008 RC0, and I didn’t know about the new material; I was just downloading it while I was there. In any case, in thirty minutes or so, I’ll let you know what’s in it.

I downloaded both the Vista RTM and 2008 RC0 kit, and you’re right -
the RC0 kit has much better filesystem driver samples. Thanks for all
of the information.
