Hello all,
For an encryption filter I am using an alternate stream to store information
on the file. This works fine for NTFS where the c:\testfile.txt:encryption
syntax is supported. The problem is that I will have to filter files coming
from the network as well. Does anyone know if this approach can work if I
try to use that on NFS ? Does NFS support a similar mechanism?
Thanks in advance for your help.

No.
Lots of NFS servers run on UNIX flavour which do not allow such streams.
