Is there any significant difference between testing on AMD Opteron and
testing on Athlon 64 ?
(besides the multi cpu feature of Opteron).
Testing on AMD 64: Opteron or Athlon ?Peter has mentioned previously on this list that there is only one HAL for ADM64. So, I doubt there would be any difference.

Testing on AMD 64: Opteron or Athlon ?No. If I remember correctly, the only
useful differences between the two chips are cache size and multi-processor
capability.

As far as functionality, aside from SMP/SUMA/NUMA capabilities on Opteron,
and CPUID differences (they report different CPUID values depending on CPU
model, of course), the only difference you may find is the memory speed
difference between dual mem controller and single mem controller. Which
shouldn’t make any difference, unless you’re doing something really daft.
And if you have something that “breaks” because of faster memory timing, it
will probably also break under other circumstances that change between CPU’s
of differet designs…
