SPTI on ATA stack?

I’ve been asked a question that I can’t currently answer. Has anyone on
this list tried the SCSI PassThrough Interface on the ATAPI.SYS driver that
ships with Windows? Does it get completely ignored? Is it partially
implemented? Does it cause a BSOD?

Thanks,

I believe it is supported. Obviously not all scsi requests will work.

Why not just try it and see? I would be curious to know the results.

Offline, Mark pointed out that there is an SPTI gadget in the DDK. So I
found that, tried it, and will spend the next little while figuring out
what it’s telling me. But some stuff definitely does work.

If you installed the storage samples, the gadget is in %BASEDIR%
\src\storage\tools\spti

Hi,

We have own ASPI layer emulation DLL that has SPTI low edge. Works fine
with ATAPI.SYS from 2K and XP. At least I can use ATAPI CD burner devices
with CD burning applications.

Regards,
Anton

I only tried SMART_RCV_DRIVE_DATA on NT4.
Works fine, regardless of whether the disk support SMART.
