SoftIce on XP

Hi,
I am facing a problem on Win XP with softice debugger installed.
I am able to debug the basic dll in a windows 2K softice setup but I am not
able to debug the same in the XP. The “dll” is a user mode dll. Though the
dll can be debugged using the IDE but I want to try this on softice for
specific reasons.
To put the question in another way; I did not get a hit on the break point,
thought that part of the code is executed.
I cross verified the configuration of both the system, but I did not see
any dissimilarity.

Regards and thanks in advance,
Prasanna.

You have to get the (I think its beta) update from numega. You should
try the vendor, http://www.numega.com rather than this list, for
commercial product support.

Although Alberto’s listening! Prasanna, which SoftIce are you running ? We
support XP Beta 2 with our new DriverStudio Release 2.5 Beta 1.

I have been using Driver Studio 2.1 on XP with some success. I only install
Soft-ICE. It is pretty much all you need anyway. Why would one need your
2.5?

Hi, Dominick,

DS 2.01 supports SoftIce on XP Beta 2, while DS 2.5 supports both SoftIce
and BoundsChecker on XP Beta 2. DriverStudio 2.5 has the concept of
host/target machines, and you can remote debug target machines from a host
machine, including remote configuration, remote dump analysis, and remote
performance monitoring using TrueTime.

We do have XP Beta 2 support on DS 2.01 too, but only for SoftIce. DS 2.5
has a lot more than SoftIce, and the functionality of SoftIce has been
expanded to a host/target remote debugging model! So, I don’t know if you
need DS 2.5, maybe 2.01 will do fine, it depends on how you’re using it.
Actually, if you bump into some issue with 2.01 support of XP, please let us
know!

But some people out there may have DS 2.0, or even 1.5, in which case there
is no XP support.

Alberto.

Hi Dominick and Alberto,
Thanks for the reply.
I tried to browse through the numega site for the 2.01 or 2.5, but I did not
find it. Any way I have sent a mail to Sheryl Skidmore for the help as
suggested by Alberto.
Mean while, Dominick how did you get the 2.01 version. Can you please
specify the URL. It will be of great help. We have valid product key.

Regards,
Prasanna.
