Soft Ice on XP

Hi,
I have installed SoftIce 2.6 (tried 2.7 as well) on XP machine where video
controller is from SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) device-6325 and XP can
not find driver for that and hence comes with some default driver whose
description is not even shown in the display properties->Settings (I think
it should be standard VGA driver) and SoftIce never works with this
display driver (always gives blurr screen when I press Ctrl-D). XP comes
with some SiS display drivers but none of them loads when selected.

On the same machine on NT, the video driver installed is “VGA compatible
display adapter” driver from Microsoft and SoftIce works fine there. I was
looking to replace XP display driver with this one, but did not find it on
Microsoft site. In device Manager, it is shown under “Other devices” with
description “Video controller (VGA compatible)”.

any directions?

Thanks
Raj

Try to use the following setting:

Softice settings–>Video—>Universal Video Driver.

Click on Detect and then Test, Reeboot the machine and then it should work
fine.

Yes, I had tried that and I get this msg -

“SoftIce universal video driver test failed: Display driver and/or display
HW does not support DirectDraw.”

I tried to downoad the latest driver from SiS site, but does not solve
this problem.

Thanks
Raj

It probably means you’re out of luck. You should try to contact Compuware
tech support to see if there is a driver for your display adapter. If not,
you’d have to use another one.
