The IFSKit does not come with MSDN. It is something that has to be
purchased separately. All of the latest information about the IFSKit,
including how to order it and its price, can be found at:

Thanks Neal I will check out the resources you talked about.
How much is the IFSKit. I don’t have it yet. I thought it came with
the MSDN subscription I just ordered but I could be wrong.

David,
I believe the problems with SFilter that Jamey mentioned have been fixed in
the Windows 2000 IFSKit. The IFSKIT also contains a new filter sample
called FileSpy as well as a lot of new documentation.
If you do encounter issues with the new version of the IFS kit please send
your comments to xxxxx@microsoft.com.
Also, the http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/ntifskit/ntupto2k.htm website
describes ‘Potential issues involved in updating Windows NT IFS drivers to
Windows 2000’. This should be helpful in working through your issues.
You could also look at www.osr.com and www.systernals.com for information
and examples of working file system filters.

The problem with SFilter is that it can not distinguish between the file
system control device and the volume devices. This causes BSOD in some cases
when trying to forward requests. It is totaly wrong.
SFILTER from Nagars book is a better.

Well if SFILTER is crap then what would you recommend for a filter driver
example.

SFILTER for NT 4.0- is crap. They have amde some attempts to fix
the bugs in
the 2k version, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.
