setting security on device

hi all

the whole idea of using the pdo/fdo-nonnamed/interface
is to gain a secured device object

  1. is this correct?
  2. how to set security on device object?

No, PnP “security” only means that the device interfaces registered by PnP are the only names by which the device can be opened.

with all due respect
that seems to contradict walter oney’s book
he has a whole discussion
he says that it is possible to set security
from a couple of keys in the registry
with default…and so on

he says that in the next eddition of the os
it will become possible to set device
security thru gui
and not just using registry

Yes, but this has nothing to do with PnP and device interfaces.
This worked in NT4 too.
