In case you haven’t noticed… it’s now on MSDN and available for download.

P.S. Windows 7 is there too. And the symbols packages. Checked builds? Not that I can find.

OK.
So I’ve asked a couple of msft folks this question and they didn’t know the answer, so I’m hoping someone here knows what these new ‘architecture specific’ versions of the SDK are: SDK x86 v. SDK x64 v. SDK IA64.
That is, does ‘x86’ (for example) mean that it’s for an:
a.) x86 host
b.) x86 target
c.) none of the above/other
I would guess that it’s (a), but I find the whole thing strange, as the WDK doesn’t do this and the SDK wouldn’t have much if anything (I would think) that’s architecture specific. Perhaps it’s because of size or something, but having to download (I assume) both x86 & x64 is a pain in the ass, and (again, I assume) that this will result in to separate installations?
As long we’re at it, does anyone know what ‘Windows 7 Enterprise’ is?
Thanks,
mm
That should have read - ‘I would guess (b).’
My bad,
mm
Yet I think the answer is (a). You are choosing the host environment not
the range of possible target environments.
That would be, AFAIK and based on my faulty memory and experience. I love
the WDK. Once size fits all.

Microsoft’s new TV Sci-Fi series. The story told from the
perspective of the Borg to counter the Federation propaganda.
Wrong twice. Tough post for Martin.
That being said, that’s good news, as I’ll just download the x86 iso and run it on both x86 & x64. I assume that will work at least for my purposes, though since we are talking about something involving an msft installater, I can’t say that I’d be shocked to if there were some intentional platform check.
So, Dave, since you are the source when it comes to SDK knowledge, any thoughts as to why they did this at all? In particular, I find that they would incur whatever cost there is by breaking out the IA64 case very strange. There’s always someone out there for most anything, but I would be very curious to know who many actually end up downloading the IA64 SDK.
So, Dave, since you are the source when it comes to SDK knowledge
Buddy, if this is true, you are deep in the sh*t and need to be thrown a
rope. My knowledge extends from having installed one beta of the Win7 SDK
on an XP system and then spent the next 1/2 day trying to figure out how to
get it off so I could get work done again.
So I could (and probably am) completely wrong or got it backwards, or just
couldn’t figure it out. I say just install everything on a VM somewhere
and see what the heck happens.
Cheers,
Dave
My loose understanding is that “Enterprise” is basically the same as “Ultimate,” except that it is intended for volume licensing contracts (such as with a company).

Dave:
Oh, I hear you on the vm thing. Unless I’m feeling especially lazy or I have a target that I need to reimage anyway, if it has an msft installer, it’s going in a vm first. I’m no fool. I mean, I won’t make that mistake for 50th time.
That being said, what I really don’t want to do is download it, given the current speed of msdn.
Keith:
Thanks very much for this information. I suspect that this is the sort of thing that I could have spent hours trying and failing to figure out.
Thanks,
mm
Peter,
Thanks for getting the message out!

Vista also had Enterprise SKU. IIRC it was different from Ultimate a bit - some features were lacking in Ult and present in Ent, and vice versa.
