RE: What does everyone think of Numega (Compuware) Driver Works?

If DriverWorks is buggy, tell us where the bugs are, and I guarantee we’ll
fix them for you, and pretty fast: we usually ship interim systems with bug
fixes to our users. In fact, we have a bug tracking system where priorities
go from P0 (critical) to P4 (popcorn), and our general policy is that we do
not leave any P0, P1 or P2 bug unresolved unless we really can’t duplicate
it - and those are few and far between. As for support, use
xxxxx@compuware.com and you won’t be disappointed, we’re not in the
habit of leaving our users in the cold.

And your drivers work, right ? No bugs ? Not even need for support calls ?

So, again, maybe you want to ask your consultant to send us the bug reports
? Or at least give us some tracking numbers that would allow us to figure
out what kind of bugs and support problems he’s talking about ?

I’d be much obliged !

DriverWorks?

Hi.

My company is using the DriverWorks package to create several PCI drivers.

Drivers created, drivers work, everything is great!

Then our client gets us to hire a driver expert consultant, who proceeds
to tell them that DriverWorks is very very bugy, poorly supported, and not
fit to write a driver for a toaster!

So, I wanted to get the comments of other people in the driver development
field, the real life if you will (since this guy basically teaches
Mircosoft driver writing for a living), and see what people say about
DriverWorks, and their experiences with the package.

Thanks!

I don’t believe DriverWorks is very very buggy even I have not ever
developed any commercial driver with DriverWorks. They published many useful
KB articles on driver programming. I use the idea presented in those KBs to
solve complex issues in my own driver, such as canceling in-progress IRPs, I
found nowhere on all available driver books talking about this. Compuware
also makes amazing product like Soft-ICE, it’s the only way to go for
debugging on 9x/me. I can’t imagine such a company would produce “very very
buggy” code.

I think framework works best for those have already known programming in
DDK.

I prefer “write every line of code for my driver”, but I don’t mind using
frameworks if
0) it will help me to meet the deadline.

  1. source provided (having enough time for stepping into NTOSKRNL already).
  2. reasonable flexibility and extensibility.
  3. preferably in C (looking forward to the ver 3.1).
