I too came from a Unix background. I use gvim as my editor; IIRC, there
is a ported version of ctags that comes with it. I never liked/used
cscope so maybe someone else can chime in for that.

Thanks. I’m coming from a Unix background… what windows
tools do folks use that are comparable to cscope and ctags?

One thing you can try is SlickEdit, it has quite a lot of emulations (
including brief, vi, emacs etc … ).
But Visual studio is fairly easy, and is getting better every relases …

For editing, absolutely. But not for building drivers (the original
question).

True, but after 20+ years of working on Unix, my fingers have a mind of
their own
I try to avoid confusion(s). But I’ve seen ( may be ) too many opinions at
different places so I would not vouch for anything on the build side. For
now all I can say is “Hats off to Mark Roddy” for giving us the
ddkbuild.bat.

Not true. Defining a makfile project under VS .NET, including Whidbey, and
using DDKBUILD is an excellent method for building drivers.

Agreed. Absolutely. (Actually, I use the Pre-Build event to invoke
build.exe.)
My point was: don’t use the VS .NET compilers.
