Hmmm… I don’t know if that’s a compliment or a slam.
I don’t consider myself the “minion” of ANYone. I DO know that I want to
improve things in the world of driver development, for myself and for the
development community at large. So, instead of sitting on my ass and
complaining, I decided to go fix whatever I could myself.
In terms of turning the common perception around, Walt, maybe you could help
by agressively working to get the issues about which you are aware fixed.
Now, you DID file a bunch of good bugs in the bug bash, which resulted in a
hunk of bugs in the DDK getting corrected. All I’m saying is CONTINUE TO DO
THAT.
Sorry, but “I’ve been complaining about it for two years in articles that I
wrote” and “I figured Microsoft would have fixed it if they didn’t mean it”
are both lousy excuses.
Everyone on this list has GOT to realize that we have MUCH more experience
writing most types of drivers (especially PCI drivers) than ANYone at
Microsoft. We’ve got to use that experience. There’s something you don’t
like? FILE A BUG. You don’t like the resolution you get? ARGUE YOUR
POINT.
It would be one thing if we had folks in Redmond saying “go away, we don’t
care what you think” – But when they’re ACTIVELY asking for our opinion and
feedback… the role of the members of the community is clear: GIVE them the
feedback. If we don’t get the follow-through, THEN we can justifiably go
back to complaining.
