There was an excellent PCI book published by Mindshare. I have forgot the
ISBN, but many people here must know.

PCI System Architecture, 4th Ed.

Tom Shanley / Don Anderson

Either that or go join the PCI SIG for $3000 per year so that you can
then download the official specs.

A further book could be:

Shanley, Anderson: “PCI System Architecture” ISBN 0201309742
(I haven’t read this book by myself. But the reviews at amazon sound pretty
good)

The specs are available at http://www.pcisig.com/specifications. But for
members only unfortunately.

Regards
Volker

Greetings,

Here are some links of interest:

http://www.pcisig.com/home http:

http://www.techfest.com/hardware/bus/pci.htm
http:

Know that there are no free specs. If you want an actual hard copy of the
specification, follow the first link and remember that you’ll have to pay.
If, on the other hand, all you really want is “to know the basic of PCI”
follow the second link. Enjoy.

Harmony,

Either that or go join the PCI SIG for $3000 per year so that you can
then download the official specs.

Actually, you can order the real standard for $100 from the PCI SIG, after
once spending a painful number of weeks debugging a system to discover a
vendors card was not fully PCI compliant because they have used the
Mindshare book (1st edition) and there were mistakes, I firmly believe in
having a copy of the real standard around for reference.

Don Burn
Egenera, Inc.

Since the specs are downloadable in PDF format, and PCI SIG members may
acquire an unlimited number of copies… one may usually rely upon the
kindness of a personal acquaintance who works for a PCI SIG member to
provide a copy.

So, SOMEtimes there are free specs!

No, before you ask: OSR is not a PCI SIG member

Actually the really interesting specs are $475 each (pci-x etc.) The CD with all the specs is a breathtaking $1500.
PCISIG ought to be ashamed.
