It seems like every time I post to this list (and only this list)
I get a bunch of auto-reply message from people all over the country
who are out for the week. The list server seems to be smart enough
to filter them, but they also seem to come directly to me the sender
of the original message.

Isn’t it considered impolite to auto-reply like this to messages from
mailing lists?
