you may not see the benefit immediatelly but think about the future.
Personally, I hope that 5 years later I won’t have to support NT4 and w2k
systems and also winDOS will be definitely dead. I hate “improvements” which
break working code but this isn’t a case. You may ignore new function and
use it later when write a new driver.

One of the worst problems that I see when Microsoft actually does extend
APIs to improve/fix things is the proliferation of OS-dependent code.

If there is 1.) a workaround that works on all platforms of interest 2.) a
new spiffy function or bit to set in a later platform that eliminates the
workaround then WHO CARES about the spiffy net thing. For all practical
purposes the new thinggy is useless. More trouble then it’s worth…
