Re: Missing IFS Kit Samples

Hi All,
I just purchased the IFS Kit from MS under the assumption that
Microsoft’s About the IFS Kit description was accurate. However, I can’t
find any of the Minifilter Driver Samples. In particular, I cannot find
the swapbuffers and nullfilter samples as advertised. What am I missing?

Sincerely,
Jonathan Schulze-Hewett

These are in the beta of the next IFS kit.

Quoting Neal (MS) from a previous post to the list:

You can get the latest beta IFSKit (which also
supports filter manager) from Microsoft’s Betaplace
site.

To do this register in the filter manager beta
Go to: http://beta.microsoft.com
Using GuestID: Filtermgr

Once approved you can download the latest IFSkit which
contains this new
documentation.

I too was fooled into thinking that the IFS Kit web site was accurate
for the current version (server 2003) and so purchased it based on that
information. So, I have two questions:

  1. Is there a scheduled ship date for the next version?
  2. Will I have to pay for an upgrade once it does finally ship?

Also, based on Randy’s information I went to the MS beta web site and
filled out the survey to nominate myself for the beta program. Was this
the correct thing to do? If it’s a typical MS beta, they will not
respond to you if you are not selected to participate. If they don’t
respond, is there any other way to get into the beta?

Thanks,
Kevin

Jonathan & Kevin,

The one prerequisite for joining the IFSKit beta is that you have
previously purchased an IFSKit so your purchase is not in vain.

If you have joined the beta and have not yet been approved please send
an email to xxxxx@microsoft.com. I will make sure you get approved
ASAP.

To answer Kevin’s questions: The new IFSKit will be released shortly
after Srv03 SP1 is released which will be approximately Q2 2005. Yes,
you will have to pay for an IFSKit upgrade but I believe it is only
$100.

Hi Neal.

Thanks for the response. This is good news. Perhaps it could be stated
somewhere on the web site that the Filter Manager is still only
available in the beta program and that the 2003 IFS kit does contain the
Filter Manager. Or, if this information is already there, maybe it could
be made more apparent.

Anyway, I have been informed that my request to get in the beta was
approved on 1/5/05 and now I’m just waiting for an e-mail with the
information on how I actually obtain the beta.

Thanks again.
Kevin

Kevin,

Good point, I will see if I can get the web-site updated.

To obtain the beta simply go back out to beta place and logon. You will
now see an icon for the filter manager beta, select it and you will be
taken to the location to do the download.
