I don’t know how much a PC can handle, but Linux is reported to be way
faster than NT as far as interrupt latency is concerned, so I imagine
that NT gives before the machine limits are hit.
I’ve measured with a 'scope 6uS interupt latency when running Linux,
and 60uS when running NT. Exact same hardware (dual boot) and I wrote
both drivers. The processor is in this case a Cyrix 6x86 P166. The
Linux kernel was 2.0.x, and the NT kernel was NT4.0 SP3.
Linux is way faster then NT for interrupt handling, this I know for
a fact, but that is not necessarily relevant to the original poster,
unless his customer is willing to make the switch.
