Thanks to all that have taken the time to reply. Your comments and insights
are deeply appreciated. However, can anyone point to some solid
documentation or a white paper on this topic?
About four years ago I wrote an NT 4.0 driver for an Allen Bradley
prototype motion control board which had an onboard 8254 timer chip.
We were successfully testing it at up to 10,000 interrupts per second
and There were no Ill effects to the system.
Of course there was little else going on on the test box which was a
Pentium 120 I believe.
Todays much higher speed machines should be capable of interrupt rates
way above 10,000.
