I just recently purchased InstallShield Developer 8. I have learned that
InstallShield will NOT install drivers for you. YOu have to create an
install program and then create a ‘Custom Action’ that will call you
install program during the installation.
BTW, I had some problems with my install application in one of the
InstalShiel Custom actions. I contacted InstallShield and for two weeks
we went back and forth with emails. DON’T PURCHASE THEIR TECH SUPPORT
PACKAGES.
First download their demo versions and call them for 30 days of tech
support. YOu will learn all you need without purchasing their shabby
support.

I just use InstallShield as a wrapper around MSI - that is, only with
basic (not standard) projects. Used this way it basically becomes a
glorified database editor, slightly above Orca on the evolutionary
scale. I’ve been able to solve virtually any install problem by
consulting Microsoft’s Windows Installer 2.0 docs and using the Direct
Editor to bypass InstallShield’s buggy GUI and enter things directly in
the tables.
