RE: how can I update a NIC driver with old driver built-i- n in XP?

I could be wrong, but if you have a signed driver that is more recent than
the ‘built in’ driver, then update should do the right thing. The user (or
your install program) just invokes the update method and points PnP at the
newer signed driver. The manual method is: device manager (right click,
Update Driver…), the programmatic method is
UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices(…).
