RE: Can not find NetChip USB 2.0 Debug Cable driver on W indows Vista

Thanks David, but it still doesn’t work, did you use this cable and made it
work before? Could you give some more details.

Thanks.

There is no driver on the target system. It is built into the OS’s debug
support. Leave it as a device with an error on the target.

Hi,

I bought NetChip USB 2.0 Debug Cable from PLX, when I plug in the cable into
my computer, Windows Vista doesnt find NetChip USB 2.0 Debug Cable driver
(NetChip Turbo CONNECT 2.0), I use search, it still can not find, but PLX
support said Windows Vista should support it. Is there anybody use these
cables with WinDbg (use USB2.0 Debug Cable)?

Thanks.

Did you follow the directions? Why don’t you tell us how you did it beginning with the host system. All command lines used, OS versions, etc. Then how you configured the target system. Have you ever succeeded in using 1394 and/or serial on the same systems and OS versions? They have people who teach classes in this.

I think I follow the directions, maybe some mistake, I always succeeded with
serial cable, but doesnt try 1394, because I see Vista will support USB 2
cable to debug, it should be fast, so I want to use. I use bcdedit to
configure/enable USB 2 as debug, use such cable to connect two hosts, but
debug connection doesnt establish, I guess my computer doesnt know this
device, so I want to know who can succeeded to use such USB 2 cable before,
see the cable here

Is the computer a Dell? Does it have the required USB 2 chipset? Did you read the instructions in the windbg help about USB 2? I have one system that does not work, but it works with a Dell target. This only applies to the target as the host can be a XP computer.

Ok, now I figure out how to work, my computer is DELL laptop, it doesnt
work, but my other desktops work. The details instructions as following,

  1. Check Target and Host machines if they have USB2 controller or not?
    If they have, then go to next, otherwise doesnt work;

  2. You need have such special debug cable, see
    http://www.plxtech.com/products/NET2000/NET20DC/default.asp
    http: ;

    3. MUST run latest WinDbg (6.6.7.5) on Target and Host machines FIRST
    before you plug in debug cable, and select File -> Kernel Debugging -> USB
    2.0 tab, click OK, then close WinDbg and save as default setting. This step
    will install Debug Cable Driver, on Windows Vista, you will select install
    ANYWAY;

    4. MUST plug in you debug cable on your Target and Host machine USB
    HUB PORT 1, if you dont know which one is port 1, use usbview.exe
    application to verify, but some machine you will never find the port 1 as
    you can plug in debug cable, like my DELL laptop, sorry you will be not able
    to use this as Target machine;

    5. Use bcdedit to Create/Add your debug entry on Windows Vista as
    target machine;

    6. Use the latest WinDbg to enjoy your debug through USB 2.0 Debug
    Cable;
