Re: BIOS control (was: global kernel lock)

You are going to need your own NTLDR which means the HAL kit, you will have
to justify to Microsoft why you need to do this. For that matter why do you
think you need this? I have had a number of clients who have said I need to
something special and try to extract it out of Microsoft. In general they
have been rejected, and once they seperate their “well this is how we will
do it” baggage from the problem there has always been a way to do this
without the hack.

Sorry for piggybacking.

I’m in need to investigate of getting BIOS level control. And I can see what
a battering I will have to face if I put the questions up here !!!

I dont want to have option BIOS or anything, but before OS (NT family only)
gets to the boot menu ( or in case of single boot start strapping) I need to
have control.
It should meet the BIOS specification, ACPI 2.0, and EFI.

Really appreciate, if I get some feedback as to where to look at besides
those specification(s). Sounds like HAL area.

Thanks for giving the direction(s).

If I am allowed to flush it “why I need it”, I would have posted it in a
very gory detailed way after following the “Art of asking question(s)”.

If we see that it requires persuing Microsoft, of course we will go tell
them what is the need. But it might not be that difficult, might not be
there is a need to go thru that route, and that I have to see, that is why
it is investigation.
