Fair question! But the FS space and driver space are fundamentally
different.

In the case of OSR’s FSDK, we started with a completely undocumented
interface (which is today still mostly undocumented), that uses several
entirely undocumented sets of support routines, that operates using a set of
undocumented semantics, in a totally unsupported environment. Using our
knowledge of this infrastructure we created a small set of documented and
supported interfaces that work within a predictable infrastructure and with
a well-known set of semantics.

So, the FS space is fundamentally different due to its evolution and
support. The analogy in the driver world would be MS just giving us was a
copy of WDM.H and CLASS.C (no docs, nothing else) and telling us to “go ye
forth and write drivers.”

In that case, yeah… you can be sure I’d be a BIG fan of toolkits.

Oh yeah, well the DDK was really well documented and had really good
samples when WinDK first showed up. I wonder what your response will be
when they document the IFS kit and provide decent samples with it. I guess
you have direct control of that though

Let me apologize to Peter and the people at OSR. I meant this as a jibe,
but as I reread it it sounds pretty bad. I in no way meant to imply that
Peter or OSR would intentionally hold back information to enrich
themselves, heck they are the ones hosting the IFS FAQ! You never have to
apologize for what you don’t say, and I should have heeded that advice
here. I apologize for a really bad insinuation.

Maybe you, Mark Roddy, Jamey and the others should all get together for a
group hug?

This discussion has had an unusually high component of what could be taken
as personal attacks…perhaps the full moon in conjunction with Halloween?

Better meet Online with Quake/Unreal/Halflife (or any other EGO-Shooter).
Fight with C+±RocketLauncher against the C-Axes.
But beware you can kill yourself with a rocket-launcher in this game.
With an Axe it is impossible to kill yourself. ;->

The better comparison is a panel-made El Cheapo apartment house - and a church.
