Re[2]: NTFS disk crash

maybe your ntfs boot sector is wrong. (Booting/installing win9x
sometimes gives strange results.)

To fix a ntfs boot-sector:

  1. Use the other NT-System
  2. Use DskProbe.exe from NT4-Resource Kit or from Win2000 Support
    Directory.
  3. open physical drive ( the faulty one) read sector 0 and display as
    Partition-Table. Verify entrys.
  4. If these entrys make sense go to first sector of your ntfs partition.
Display as NTFS Boot-Sector. If it is overwritten you can go to the
last sector of the ntfs partition where you find a copy of boot
sector. Copy it to sector 0 of your partition.
  5. reboot.
  6. check again in diskmgr.

I have try another NT system, the case is the same. The message Box show "
The file or directory$Volume is corrupt and unreadable, please run the
chkdsk utility" I have run chkdsk, but it seems no use. I use NT disk
administrator to view the disk, It shows “unknown” on my NTFS disk.

Bogdan Coroi is right - you may safely use chkdsk on a Win2K system to
regain access to your “unknown” NTFS disk. Try the “/f” parameter and if
you get asked about performing the check on the next reboot, confirm with
“Yes”, reboot the machine and let the utility do its job (you may be having
some cross-linkage problems, also…). If that doesn’t solve your problem,
you should consider getting a tool like the OSR’s ERD Commander 2000

(check http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/erdcommander2k.shtml)

or similar (a DOS 5 boot-up disk could be usefull ;))… finally, if software
doesn’t seem to help at all, you should check any other possibilities (loose
cable connections, controller burns, physical damages on the disk?..)

-> What lead you to run into the present situation, in the first place?..
