Re: 1394 debugging

Well, I *finally* have something to report about this.

We did get that PMC card, but it did not work initially for me. After a
lot of back-and-forth, it turned out to be a power supply problem in my
system (the PMC card uses +12V not only to provide power for the 1394
ports, but it also powers the PHY, and my power supply had a problem).

Anyway, a new power supply made the card work, and I was able to get
Windbg (from the Win7 WDK) to connect.

Just closing the loop, in case someone else runs into a similar problem.

I’m going to work on a driver for an embedded board running Windows (XP
and above). The board has serial ports, but they are not implemented
using 16550 UARTS, so I am unable to use them for WinDbg. It has an
Intel USB controller chip which *should* work for USB debugging, but I
was never able to get that to work.

There’s a chance we can use a 1394 controller on a PMC card (this one:
http://www.bvm-store.com/PMCDataSheets/PMCfw2ds.html). It says it uses
“32-bit PCI single chip IEEE1394 OHCI controller (Texas TSB12LV26).”

What are the odds this will work for debugging? Especially on 64-bit
Windows (given that it says “32-bit PCI”)? Any other suggestions?
