RDR2 Problems - Please read!

The rxce.lib library (both free and checked versions) as delivered with the
Windows 2000 IFS Kit was built with the wrong compile flags. This will
result in some bizarre problems with RDR2-based redirectors. Microsoft has
been made aware of this problem and has provided me with an unofficial
release (free version) of the library and it resolves the problems I had
seen. They are in the process of creating an offical release of the
updated libraries. I contacted them today to find out what the timeline
for this release is and to ask whether I can re-distribute the unofficial
copy I have. When I get a response, I’ll post more details.

Could you be more specific? What are the ‘bizarre problems’?
I am using it for a long time without problems?

Boris

Microsoft sent me the updated RDR2 libraries and gave me permission to
redistribute them while they finish testing (which should be complete in
the near future). Contact me if you need a copy before MS officially
releases them. These are the rxce.lib and rdbsslib.lib libraries that came
with the Windows 2000 IFS Kit.

Because the libraries were built with incorrect compile flags, the
libraries may incorrectly read some data structures resulting in a variety
of access violations (null pointers, illegal instructions, etc.) depending
on what happens to be in the structure at the time.

Excuse me, but I have to interject here…

Microsoft has NOT given you permission to redistribute the libraries. This
could not happen without signing a license agreement, which has not been
done! I know, 'cause I’m the one at MS that would have to sign it on our
side <;-)

Generally, it’s a bad idea to start handing around privates - particularly
before the final testing is complete, and everything is validated. As every
developer has experienced, there are often times when someone attempts to
create a fix and in testing comes to find out it only partially fixed the
problem. We even sometimes come up with a fix that looks good, but in
regression testing, we find some dependency which is impacted in a manner
that was not expected. Come on guys, this kind of thing is just asking for
trouble.

For this bug - The fix is currently in test, and we’re actively working to
confirm the bits are correct. As soon as that happens, I’ll get the updated
posted and available for download to the IFS web site -
http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/ifskit/ I promise. Honest. We’ve even got
all the web pages done and are just waiting for the bits to hit the “go”
button.

If you are blocked on development due to this or any other bug in the IFS
Kit, please send mail to the IFS Kit feedback alias, and we’ll do our best
to find a solution.

Thanks,
Jean

My apologies. Apparently there was a miscommunication between the
developer and myself.
