Question on logon-time network connections on XP

Probably the wrong group to ask, but someone here probably knows an answer.

A friend is complaining that he has XP Pro on a machine with auto-logon set
up, and programs that run from the startup folder. These programs need
access to files on mapped drives.

However, he claims that if he doesn’t use a script to delay this program,
that some of the network connections will be Xed, and the program will fail.
Double-clicking on the mapped disks and restarting the program works, as
does delaying the program until the connections are validated (apparently).

He further claims this wasn’t a problem on W2K, since all the connections
got made before the logon finished and the startup folder ran.

Does anyone know how to degrade XP back to the W2K logon behaviour for this
guy? (Or other way to try to insure all mapped drives connect early?) I
took a quick look thru MMC and couldn’t find anything obvious, but I
probably just missed it.

Note: recompiling the program isn’t an option, this is commercial software
the guy is running, and he is a user type, not a programmer (and doesn’t
have source anyway!)

Thanks,

Loren

You need to turn off the “Fast Logon” feature:
