Problems with installing a wdf driver

I’ve tried to install the wdf driver on variuos computers. On some of them, it works well. But one (the most significant) computer decline the installation.

It has XP porffesional service pack 2, 1GHz, 480 MB.

In setupact.log it writes: “error (1603). (incorrigible error during installation). Possible causes are running fre version of coinstaller on checked version of OS and vice versa.”
But the version of driver is of free version, as the OS.

What are the problems, which can happen to wdf coinstallers, and where can the list of wdf installation errors be found?

Which version of WDF are you installing and where did you get it from?
I’ve installed on quite a few platforms and I have never seen this
error.

To properly assess your situation, we would also need to know:

(1) Which KMDF version’s coinstaller you are talking about.
(2) Whether the coinstaller is the free or checked coinstaller (IIRC, KMDF 1.0 version did not have a checked coinstaller).
(3) Whether the machine has had any KMDF drivers installed previously
(4) If (3) it true, what KMDF coinstaller was used.

  1. I use KMDF 1.1.
  2. I use free coinstaller.
  3. But previuosly i installed there checked coinstaller.

If the checked coinstaller worked previously, then your OS has a checked kernel/HAL (at least, it had to at the time you installed using that coinstaller).

The free coinstaller will not work on this system (unless you have somehow restored the original kernel and HAL sometime in between).

Alex-

If there is a problem with this explanation, or if you feel there is an error with this, feel free to email me directly. I do want to make sure your installation problem is solved.

No, it didn’t work previously, so i reinstall driver with free version of coinstaller, but it didn’t help.

I’ve sent you an email. I think this is better investigated offline.

For what it’s worth, the error message this guy is getting is (I believe) the same one I was getting with failed upgrades from 5744 to 6000.

Yes, but yours is the only instance I’ve yet seen where the message about a mismatch between the coinstaller and the OS was incorrect, and he is running a coinstaller shipped before the problem you ran into had even been coded.

If there’s a bug here, I’ll post back with that info. Until then, it’s all speculation until this is investigated.
