Problems running an app, which works on any other pc if compiled- on a Del optiplex gx150 with

Hi all,

After rebuilding our app using msvc v6 sp4 on the Del optiplex gx150 win 2k
sp2 PC it worked correctly, the compiled exe will also run on any other PC.

So our question now is how do find out what could be different on a dell PC
win 2k installation sp2 compared to a generic win 2k service pack 2

msvc v6 and sp4 for msvc
win2k service pack2
Del optiplex gx150
256mb ram
1ghz processor

One thing we observed which is different is the versions of ie reported on
the help page

For the dell PC this is

version 5.50.422.1800
product id 52974-402-54992-04535
update version sp1,q299618

on the other test PC’s with w2k sp2
this is reported as

version 5.00.3315.1000
product id 51873-006-3751203-09717
update version sp2

Am I correct in thinking that installing sp2 for win 2k updates ie to sp2
level ?

thanks

We build our app statically linked and it runs up ok but a t one point
always the same place on every run from the icon it fails.

Check your compiler optimization, make sure for the release build it is
set for “smallest code” not “fastest code”.
