Problem of using a PCI device in a Hot Plug PCI slot

Hi,

This is more hardware problem but if somebody could answer I would certainly
appreciate it.

Our PCI card doesn’t work in a Hot Plug PCI slot (Intel Server SSH4). It
doesn’t have power when PC is turned on. During powering the PC, I see one
blink of a slots LED. The LED indicates if there is power on a slot or not.
It seems like PC tries to probe our card but failed.

The PCI Hot Plug specification says that regular PCI device should work in a
Hot Plug PCI slot without any modification. In other words there are not
special hardware requirements for this type of slot.

I don’t mean removal and installation on fly. I am just interesting in
powering device when PC starts.

Does anybody get such problem?

What do you mean by “doesn’t work”? does it crash? Does it freeze? Does
it detect the board but not loading the driver or something else? What
OS are you using?

It just isn’t powered. The PC tries to give power to the card(I can see it
by blinking a LED) but failed. The LED on the slot doesn’t show that there
is power. Everything happened before loading OS( It is Windows 2000) and
even any PCI transaction( I couldn’t see any PCI configuration messages on
the bus).

The card works fine in a regular PCI slot(not-Hot Plug PCI slot) in the same
computer.

I wonder if the card needs some hardware changes, but I could not find them
in Hot Plug PCI specification
