Hi,
? can you recommend a PCIe gen1, 2, 3 analyzer? I’m interested to find out what’s reliable on the market and can support any OS.
? Thank you for taking the time.

LeCroy CATC has been my life safer for years. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s
worth. I don’t know if their capturing sw supports anything other than
Windows. I was able to talk to it from a Windows VM on MacOS at the time I
was attempting to do most of my computing on Mac.
Good luck!

I don’t know why “supporting any OS” is even a concern. The cost of the
most expensive laptop. i.e. a fully loaded MBP with retina display compared
to that of a gen 2,3 analyzer is a drop in the bucket. You can always
dedicate a Windows laptop to the analyzer, and RDP to it from any OS. I
don’t know of any popular OS that doesn’t support RDP. In such way, it
supports any OS.

P.S. I worked with Apple engineers on some PCIe related things. I know that
they use Windows for that purpose:)

All bus analyzers work at the hardware level and are therefore
operating-system-neutral. A more interesting question is what OS
platforms the analysys software runs on, and this doesn’t matter a whole
lot because, given the prices I’ve seen, the cost of a dedicated machine
to run Windows or linux is hardly noticeable.

When you get to the point where you think you need a bus analyzer, you
have already gone well past te point where you should have been using a
bus analyzer.
It is a commentary on my hardware involvement that the last time I used a
bus analyzer, it was a 16-bit bus. It was also considerably cheaper, and
far far harder to use (analysis software? We don’t need no stinkin’
software!) than the modern tools, but there is absolutely no substitute
for knowing what is REALLY happening on the bus.
Lost time is lost revenue.

There’s at least one vendor that doesn’t ship any analyzing sw for Vista+. The ideal would be Linux and Windows all versions.

Truer words have never been spoken.
As a side business, we should start selling plaques with Driver Development Aphorisms on them.
This is certainly an EXCELLENT one,
