I have a request to run an existing mini-filter on Windows XP (no
service packs) and Windows XP SP1.
Is this possible? I didn’t find anything on the topic in the IFS DDK docs.
Regards,
Mickey.

Nope. The Filter Manager is in SP2 and it’s required for mini-filters.

Hi Ken,
This is for in-house testing purposes only so all the rules can be
broken if need be…
Is it possible to move the needed bits (Fltlib.dll, Fltmgr.sys, etc.)
into vanilla XP and make it work? At least for a little while…
Failing that, is there any new information about the proposed update to
Windows 2000 to support the filter manager? I’m aware of something
called a ‘rollup’ that was released instead of SP 5 that apparently
doesn’t work very well and of some possible re-release but I haven’t
played with it and don’t know what’s in it.
Regards,
Mickey.

You can’t just drop in Filter Manager. You need a new kernel, other
libraries, etc.
The Win2K Update Rollup works fine in most cases. It provides the Filter
Manager for Win2K – use it.
FYI – We’ve been promised a redistributable for the Filter Manager for
Win2K (so it won’t require the Rollup), but that won’t happen for Win XP.

That’s sort of what I expected on the hack-vanilla-XP front.
As for the Win2k, I just discovered that it does not support
CmRegisterCallback() for registry filtering. This is important for my
purposes so I guess I’m stuck with XP SP2 and up for this test. (With
mini filter, anyway.)
Thanks,
Mickey.
