Welcome Everyone,
First of all, a big THANK YOU must go to Nat Mishkin for his service to the
development community
over the past several years by hosting these lists. THANKS NAT!
From now on, the “ntdev” and “ntfsd” lists will be hosted by OSR. The new
address for posting to
these lists is:
xxxxx@lists.osr.com
xxxxx@lists.osr.com
Note that these lists at OSR are run by a Lyris list server; this is a
relatively new list server, with lots of new capabilities. However, it
IS different from “majordomo” that was previously used to host the lists
so please aware that the commands might be slightly different from those
that you are used to using.
>>IMPORTANT: Mail or Digest BUT NOT BOTH
There is one important change you’ll need to be aware of: If you
previously subscribed to BOTH the mail discussion list and the digest
list, your subscription has been changed to give you ONLY the mail
discussion lists. The Lyris list server allows you to subscribe to
the mail list or the digest but NOT BOTH. If you prefer to get the
digest form, just change your member preferences as described below.
>>HOW TO USE OSR’s LIST SERVER
(Please read this and save us all a lot of time!)
I’ll use the ntfsd list in the examples below. But if you’re a member
of ntdev, obviously substitute “ntdev” for “ntfsd” in the addresses.
-
First of all, almost everything that you might ever need to do on the
server is most easily and effectively performed via Lyris’s Web interface
at http://www.osr.com/lists.html – Check it out, it’s pretty cool, and
to me at least it’s much easier to use than figuring out what the
correct cryptic email command is. -
The list archive will be maintained on the web, in full text
searchable form. We’ll import the past 2 years of discussions onto
our web server as soon as we have a chance. Again, you’ll access the
archive via the web at http://www.osr.com/lists.html – Give us a
few weeks to get the archive imported, though, OK? -
In case you prefer the traditional email method of setting your list
options, here are some key commands.
To perform the operation shown, place the indicated command in either
the subject line or in the body of your message. Send your message
to xxxxx@lists.osr.com == DO NOT SEND REQUESTS or COMMANDS TO the list
address (as in “xxxxx@lists.osr.com”).
To SUBSCRIBE:
subscribe ntfsd your_name
To UNSUBSCRIBE:
unsubscribe ntfsd
To SET MEMBERSHIP TO DIGEST MODE:
set ntfsd digest
To SET MEMBERSHIP TO INDEX MODE:
set ntfsd index
To SET MEMBERSHIP TO DISCUSSION MODE:
set ntfsd mail
To TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING MAIL FROM THE LIST:
set ntfsd nomail
To RESUME MAIL FROM THE LIST: (command depends on your preferred mode)
set ntfsd mail
set ntfsd digest
set ntfsd index
To POST TO THE LIST:
You must be a subscriber to post messages. Sending mail to this address
will distribute it to all the members of the mailing list:
- CHANGING YOUR SETTINGS/ADDRESS VIA THE WEB INTERFACE: To do this, go
to http:. Select the ntfsd list, and then click
the link in the “Change Your Settings” section. You’ll need to enter
your e-mail address and password (if you chose one) to continue.
(If you’ve forgotten your password, you can type in your e-mail address
in the field at the bottom of the page and click “Get password” to
request Lyris to e-mail your password to you.)
At the following page, you can read messages, post a message, adjust
your settings, or unsubscribe. From the settings page, you can change
your status (MAIL, DIGEST, INDEX, or NOMAIL), choose whether or not to
see your own messages, and choose whether or not you want to receive a
separate acknowledgement via e-mail when one of your messages is posted
to the list, You can also change your e-mail address if you need to.
When you change your settings, make sure you click the “Save” button at
the bottom of the page.
5. BOUNCED MAIL: Bounced mail will almost always be handled automatically
by the Lyris list server.
6. POSTS/REPLIES FROM DIGEST USERS: You must change the Subject: line
when replying to a digest; all posts with “NTFSD DIGEST” in the
Subject: line will be rejected by the server (you will receive a
“rejection letter” when this happens).
PROBLEMS: If you have ANY problems related to the NTFSD Discussion
List, please do not post them to the list. List managers are at your
disposal for this very purpose; please avail yourself of the resource:
xxxxx@lists.osr.com
If you have any questions about the list or the Lyris server, feel free
to contact us. (NOTE: We currently manage multiple mailing lists; please
be sure to state in your message which list you are referring/subscribed
to. Thanks!)
