Non-hardware driver signing for Whistler

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has more up-to-date information on the topic of the
brief e-mail exchange below. I don’t want to be in the position that XP
users will not install my software just because I can’t get the drivers
signed. Note that the iOra product uses an FS filter driver, but not for
“Anti-virus”.

REQUEST:

Recent reports on Whistler/XP suggest that installing drivers which are
not signed by Microsoft will produce sufficiently severe warning
messages such that many (or most) customers will refuse to install the
software. The documented procedure for getting a driver signed is via
WHQL. However, this procedure does not make sense for file-system filter
drivers, for which there is no hardware!

Will it be necessary for filter drivers to be signed? What is the
procedure for getting such a signature?

RESPONSE:

File System Filter drivers are not included in the WHQL driver signing
program. We are currently working on a program for Anti-virus file
system filter drivers, and are considering other drivers.

ENDS

Thanks,
Brian Collins, iOra
