Mount Manager

Hello,
I have developed a Virtual Disk driver. The virtual disk is visible in Windows Explorer too. And I am able to perform IO operations on Virtual Disk. The problem is that this virtual disk doesn’t persist across system reboots. After each reboot, I have to manually mount that Virtual Disk. In addition to that I am not able to get that virtual disk in Windows Disk Manage utility. As per my knowledge I need to inform to Mount Manager to solve this issue. But not able to make any progress after this. Please advice this issue.
Thanks.

What kind of driver is it? If it’s a port driver, it should be displayed in those utilities.

It’s a Legacy class driver.
If it would have been port driver, why it would automatically got displayed in those utilities! Please explain.
What I am supposed to do for Legacy class driver?

Hello ntdev,
this is my third post…I already posted 2 questions on the same line before…why you people don’t dare to answer this question ?
Is there no body in NTDEV, who will help me out !!

Sometime people don’t know. Sometimes people don’t understand what you
are asking. A good rule of thumb is that, whatever happened originally,
probably no one will answer it unless you include the question in each
e-mail. People aren’t generally going to go looking through the
archives.

MM: I agreed with your opinion.

Lets put it in simple words.
I have a driver, similar to Bo Brant?n’s FileDisk driver.
FileDisk is a virtual disk driver that uses one or more files to emulate physical disks. We can mount this Virtual disk using command-line utility.
But the problem is that this mounted virtual disk doesn’t persist across system reboots. Also I am not able to get that virtual disk in Windows Disk Manage utility. Please advise.
Thanks.

Are you this annoying in person? Considering you payed ZERO dollars for access to this forum, you are guaranteed exactly zero help. This is not an official Microsoft support forum; no one is obligated to help you. People *do* help, quite a lot, but only as their time, patience, and expertise allows.

Even if I knew the answer, I wouldn’t answer a rude demand like this. Do your homework first (i.e. search the archives, MSDN, etc.), and don’t be rude.

Well ignoring the stolen code issue for a moment, the fact of the matter is
that the mountmanager/volume/disk relationships are very poorly documented
in the DDK, there are no code samples of any value for this in the ddk, and
anyone trying to get this stuff to work for some sort of virtual volume
device has a rather difficult task of trial and error and reverse
engineering in front of them.

Firstly, sorry for the thing happened. My sole intention was just to
seek help and nothing else. But if I have made a mistake, apologies for
the same.

Mark, I agree with you.

I have not referred FileDisk code simply because it does not support the
functionality that I want i.e. my virtual disk doesn’t persist across
system reboots. Just to re-explain the scenario neatly I mentioned about
FileDisk, as when I did google, got lots of links regarding FileDisk.

You must:

  1. be a PnP stack with a PDO
  2. IoRegisterDeviceInterface( MOUNTDEV_MOUNTED_DEVICE_GUID )
  3. respond to all IOCTL_MOUNTDEV_xxx, mainly to “query ID” one, you must
also design the notion of this ID for you.
