Managed code and kernel debugging?

Hi all,
Is there any way to debug managed code with Visual studio and
drivers on the same machine at once? I’m guessing no because I get the
“Error: Debugging isn’t possible because a kernel debugger is enabled on the
system” error, and looking at this on MSDN it basically tells you not to
kernel debug to fix it. Any comments?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Let me rephrase that; is it possible to debug applications with a local
application debugger while doing kernel debugging at the same time from a
different machine?

Of course, you just need to try it out.

I’ve run into this problem as well. I’ve had success if I configure
VS.NET 2003 to do remote debugging to the PC that has kernel debugging
enabled. Here are my settings under Configuration Properties->Debugging
Enable ASP Debugging: False
Enable ASP.NET Debugging: False
*Enable Unmanaged Debugging: True
Enable SQL Debugging: False
Debug Mode: Project
Command Line Arguments:
Working Directory:
Always Use Internet Explorer: False
*Enable Remote Debugging: True
Remote Debugging Machine:
I found that the two setting that were important are those I’ve marked
with the *.

What I find truly amazing is that MS doesn’t support kernel debugging
and .NET debugging at the same time. I guess that MS doesn’t expect
driver developers to ever need to debug a driver and a .NET application
at the same time.

Steve,
Thanks for the help. This seems to work. I find it truly amazing
as well
