> My target system died, and I replaced it with a shiny new Compaq
Presario 2.4GHz
system running XP home edition. Now when I try to start a debug session
from my w2k
host windbg complains like so:
Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.2.0013.1
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Failed to open \.\com1
Kernel debugger failed initialization, Win32 error 5
“Access is denied.”
Any help appreciated.

It is very likely that some other app has already open the \.\com1 device.
In that case you will have to find which application is this and close it or
configure it to use some other com port on your host PC.
