Is it controlled by driver for the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon display on Vista/

I wonder is it the driver or inf controlled the “Safely Remove Hardware”
icon display in system tray on Vista? How to control it?

Typically it is the driver. IIRC, in the caps, it reports that Removable = TRUE, SurpriseRemovalOK = FALSE. I think you can override these capabilities with an INF or coinstaller, but I am more fuzzy on the specifics of how to do that.

Also note if you have, say, a downlevel NDIS miniport (i.e. 5.0) where you cannot select the surprise remove capabilities – you will need an upper filter to tweak this for you because NDIS owns the PNP dispatch routine…
