IdePort vs. IdeChnDr

On all the Win 2K and XP systems I’ve used, the global object Scsi:
has been a symlink to \Device\Ide\IdePort. However, on a handful of
customer’s systems, Scsi: is a symlink to \Device\Ide\IdeChnDr.
What’s the difference between the two, and why would a particular system
have one or the other?

Thanks,

Chuck

This is MS’s IDE stack.

This is Intel’s IDE stack (also called Intel Application Accelerator).
