Hi there,
I need to access the physical serial number on an
IDE hard drive. I notice the OSR Volume Viewer appears
to be capable and it is posible in the other operating
system. Can anyone help please.
Cheers

Are you asking for the user mode call to get this information? I can tell
you how The volume viewer gets it.

You ever fix the problems with the serial number display? If a device
doesn’t support the serial number, e.g. a USB 2.0 CompactFlash reader, it
leaves the last serial number seen from another drive. I haven’t been able
to obtain serial numbers using a standard call for devices on 1394 or USB.

Hi Mark,
Ideally I would like this at the driver level, but I
would be interested in either case.
Thanx

SMART_RCV_DRIVE_DATA IOCTL will give you all IDENTIFY data of the drive,
even if the drive will not support SMART
