Hello friends,
I am a new guy in driver programming. I have to write NDIS
Intermediate driver. I have a code from Microsoft site, ImSamp.exe and I
have to write my own packet capture driver using that. so I am using ImSamp
as a base. Can anybody tell me how to install it. In their documentation
they have specified that there is file IMSAMP.INI feed this file to
REGINI.EXE it will create registry keys for you. But there is no such file.
Then I try to install the driver using ImSamp.sys and Oemsetup.inf
from Control panel. After installation my machine start crashing, this means
driver has not properly installed. Can anybody plese tell me how to install
this ImSamp driver.
Can anybody tell me which are the mailing list for NDIS driver
developer.

you may wish to visit www.pcausa.com and grab the free imsamp sample from
there, since it includes a .inf file which allows you to install the
intermediate ndis driver.

I already visited www.pcausa.com and imsamp is there but its not free they
are charging for that.
Do you have such sample, if yes then please send it to me.

OSR’s NTDEV list is better suited for this question, so you may want
to post future NDIS IM driver questions there.

That notwithstanding: The IMSAMP sample should only be used for
Windows NT 4. Installation is very painful, and unless you require
support for NT4, since you are a beginner (as you say), I would move
onto 2000 and XP. For Windows 2000 and XP, you should be using the
PASSTHRU sample for a Filter IM driver. It is a much simpler. The DDK
has quite a bit of documentation regarding filter IM drivers. I have
been able to make the PASSTHRU driver work in Windows 98/ME and I can
send you what I have if it helps. However, there are issues (especially
installation and NDISWAN/Dial-up) in 9x/ME and there are options you
should be aware of. I’d like to take that discussion off-line.
