Hi,
Is there any way I can get windows2k3 to generate crashdumps if the crash occurs while GUI Mode of setup in ASR (Automated System Recovery) is in progress? Upon reboot windows is continuing setup, but I wasn’t able to find crashdump file.
This particular crash occurs after the “devices are installed” and “network is installed”, as shown by setup progress indicator.
Thanks,
Giri.

First, do you have auto-reboot turned on? If so turn it off.
Have you connected a host running WinDBG? that should throw a breakpoint onto WinDBG in the host and you should be able to acquire better information.

But this is during ASR Recovery (OS installation is still in progress) on a fresh host with same configuration as the host on which ASR backup was done, so we have no way of setting boot.ini options(??) and turning the host as a debuggee. The host BSODs with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3b) and first parameter is 0xC0000005.
I couldnt find info about SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION parameters either. The DDK write up just says, its a rarely occuring error
Anyone out there who has done ASR Recovery and have seen their driver crashing, while their OS installation is still in progress?

When booting after the text-mode setup is done, instead of booting into
GUI-mode, use a bootable CD or floppy and edit the boo.ini so the system
will boot in debug-mode.
If you also need to debug the text-mode setup, I think I read somewhere that
for win2k3 all you have to do is hit F8 when you see the screen with the F6
prompt.
