Free space of system partition increased automatically on Vista

I find that free space of system partition increased automatically on Vista.
I did an experiment:
After I restored my system using ghost.exe,I recorded the free space of system partition(12.0GB).After three hours I recorded the free space of system partition(12.6GB).The free space of system partition increased but I didn’t change any data on the system partition.
I suspected that disk defragmenter resulted it,but I unchecked “run on a schedule”(disk defragmenter’s setting) and did the experiment again, the experiment’s result was unchanged.
Can anyone tell me the reason?Thank’s a lot.
